What counts as a long-distance move from Miami

Any move that crosses Florida state lines, or that travels more than roughly 100 miles inside Florida, is considered long-distance (interstate or long intrastate). From Miami, the most common destinations we handle every month are Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Washington D.C., New York, Boston, Houston, Dallas, and Los Angeles. We also do regular runs to Chicago, Denver, and Nashville.

Long-distance is a different game from local. Pricing is based on weight (or cubic feet), distance, and the service level you choose — not hourly. The biggest mistake people make is comparing quotes that aren't measuring the same thing. We'll walk you through it.

How long-distance pricing actually works

There are three legitimate pricing models in the industry:

  • Binding flat rate: we inventory your home, calculate the weight or volume, and lock in a single price. No surprises at delivery. This is what we recommend.
  • Non-binding estimate: cheaper on paper, but the final bill is based on actual weight at a certified scale. Risky if the original inventory was sloppy.
  • Per-cubic-foot: common with brokers. Often used to bait-and-switch. We don't price this way.

Realistic 2026 ranges from Miami:

  • Miami → Orlando (2-bedroom): $2,400–$3,400 USD, 1–2 day delivery.
  • Miami → Atlanta (2-bedroom): $3,200–$4,500 USD, 2–4 day delivery.
  • Miami → New York (3-bedroom): $5,800–$8,200 USD, 3–6 day delivery.
  • Miami → Los Angeles (3-bedroom): $8,500–$12,400 USD, 7–10 day delivery.

Dedicated truck vs. shared load

Dedicated (exclusive) truck

Your shipment is the only one on the truck. We pick up on the date you choose, drive directly to your destination, and deliver inside a 24–48 hour window. Best for time-sensitive moves, executives relocating with a start date, and homes with high-value items. Costs roughly 25–40% more than shared.

Shared load (consolidated)

Your shipment shares a 53-foot trailer with one or two other customers heading in the same direction. Pickup happens inside a 1–3 day window, and delivery inside a 3–10 day window depending on distance. This is the standard option and what most families choose.

How we leave Miami efficiently

Long-distance trucks departing Miami have two realistic exit routes: I-95 North for the East Coast, or Florida's Turnpike connecting to I-75 North for the Midwest and West. We schedule departures before 6 a.m. or after 10 a.m. to avoid the worst of the morning slog through Aventura and Hollywood. For West Coast loads, we use the Turnpike to I-10 in Jacksonville and head west from there.

Our long-distance process step by step

  1. In-home or video survey: a coordinator inventories your home and gives you a binding flat rate.
  2. Contract and deposit: typically 20% to lock the pickup date. Balance due on delivery.
  3. Packing (optional): 1–2 days before pickup if you choose full-service packing.
  4. Pickup day: 4–6 movers load the truck. You get a signed inventory and bill of lading.
  5. Transit: live GPS tracking and a dedicated coordinator you can call directly.
  6. Delivery: unloading, placement in rooms, basic reassembly. We don't disappear.

What protects you legally

"Every interstate mover must be registered with the FMCSA and carry a valid USDOT number. Verify ours before you sign anything — that's not paranoia, that's smart consumer protection."

We're fully licensed and bonded for interstate moves, with valid USDOT and MC numbers. Your shipment is covered under federal Released Value Protection (60 cents per pound, free), and you can upgrade to Full Value Protection for total replacement coverage on damaged or lost items.

Common destinations from Miami

We run weekly trucks to Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville. We have monthly consolidated routes to Atlanta, Charlotte, the D.C./Virginia corridor, New York / New Jersey, Boston, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. If your destination isn't on the list, we still go — just ask.
